Awareness

“Meditation is one of the ways in which the spiritual man keeps himself awake.”
- Thomas Merton

The desire to know one’s internal landscape is not a new method of whole body wellness. In fact, during the Middle Ages, meditation was a popular pastime among all the world’s religions and spiritual beliefs.  The thought was that time spent in contemplation would help achieve a greater connection to God. Today you can barely turn your head without seeing an article about this ancient practice -- but what is mindfulness? In short, it is a process of self-regulation with attention to the openness and acceptance of self.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, also called MBSR, can offer a life enriching experience that includes meditation and movement to encompass a self-aware daily practice. MBSR is often used in tandem with other wellness practices such as massage, physical therapy, Reiki, and complementary medicine. Currently hospitals, therapists, and wellness centers are hiring MBSR and mindfulness practitioners to help facilitate a well rounded path to health.

At this time Yarn and Zen offers several workshops on the benefits of mindfulness and handwork. You can also schedule a one on one appointment to see how mindfulness can enhance and enrich your wellness plans.

Group classes are planned for the future. Please add your information to the contact tab above if you wish to receive updates.
